LAKE COUNTY — Many Montana seniors are living healthier, longer lives. However these older adults often find it tough to pay for prescriptions, health care, utilities, food, and other basic needs. There are more than 2,500 federal, state and private benefits programs available to help. Many people however don’t know these programs exist, or how they can apply.
Benefits CheckUp is a free service of the National Council on Aging, a national non-profit service and advocacy organization. In 15-20 minutes we can help you answer a series of questions to identify programs for which you may qualify. After answering the questions, you will get a report created just for you that describes the programs you may get help from. You can choose which you want to apply for, and we can help you apply, whether online or a printed application.
The Montana Department of Health and Human Services, Senior Division, has a particular online Benefits CheckUp site for Montana residents. Area VI Agency on Aging has people trained in using this site available in Lake, Lincoln, Mineral and Sanders counties, serving residents of these counties and the Flathead Reservation. We also cooperate with the Area IX Agency on Aging in Flathead County to increase utilization of this free service.
You Gave, Now Save is a publication of the NCOA which gives information about Benefits CheckUp and many of the programs that are available to help seniors remain independent, living where they want to live, as long as possible. It can be found online, just Google You Gave, Now Save.
