POLSON — Four girls from Polson will head to state competition this weekend with the Flathead Gymnastics Academy team. An injury will keep the fifth Polson gymnast from competing.

The families carpool their athletes three to five times per week to Kalispell for year-round afternoon practices that last 3.5 to 4 hours. Despite the rigorous schedule, all are outstanding students. Three of the girls —Jelaysia Forman-Webster, Layla Reese and Kendall Straub — all maintain a 4.0 grade point average as fifth-grade students at Polson Middle School.

Jelaysia is the 2015 Montana Level 6 all around champion. However, Jelaysia is currently injured and has been unable to compete this season.

Layla currently competes on the Level 4 team and is the 2015 Montana Level 3 uneven bar champion. She recently placed first in the Level 4 all-around at the 2016 Great West Gym Fest, including first place in uneven bars and first place in vault.

Kendall also competes on the Level 4 team, alongside Shalayne Ostler, a fourth-grader at Linderman, and Madison Straub, a 7th grader at Polson Middle School.

The 2016 Montana State Gymnastics Championships take place March 19-20 at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. Visit flatheadgymnastics.com for more information.
