News from Envision Polson
POLSON — Envision Polson was formed to continue the work and efforts that were started as a result of the Polson Heart and Soul Project. The committees listed below align with the community values that were identified by our citizens throughout this process. These committees will help to assure our community continues its efforts of collaboration and inclusion as we move forward. Involvement in the committees and projects is welcome.
—Heath and Well-Being Committee
There is a lot of work and energy going into our community’s health and well-being. February is Heart Health Month with many related activities taking place throughout the month. St. Luke’s new clinic in is under construction in the Ridgewater Development. St. Joseph Hospital welcomed a new pediatrician to their team, and she has expressed interest in working on childhood obesity prevention. Mission Valley Aquatics and the City of Polson have joined efforts in applying for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Prize. We were selected to move to the second phase of the application process.
–Youth and Schools Committee
A new sidewalk is set to be constructed from Linderman School to Seventh Avenue. Linderman is going to be installing a new sound system which is supported by funds from the Polson Education Foundation. The School Board is researching the option of a pre-kindergarten program for kids that do not qualify for Head Start. They are looking into grants to fund this program. Graduation rates at Polson High School are 91 percent, which is among the highest in PHS history.
–Leadership, Collaboration, and Communication Committee
Lake County Community Development is hosting Ned Cooney, who will provide a Board of Directors Leadership Workshop for non-profit organizations in the Lake County area. Watch for additional information on this in the coming weeks, or contact LCCDC at

–Year Round Recreation Committee
The Mission Valley Ice Arena is continuing their work to bring this new facility to our community. They will be kicking off a fundraising campaign shortly. Polson is going to be the host of the 2017 and 2018 Montana Senior Olympic Games. The Committee is looking for commissioners for each of the 14 different sporting events. –Beautification Committee
The Beautification Committee is looking forward to the annual Clean Up Green Up event that will take place in April. Watch for information in the coming months and get your gloves, community pride, and friends together to hopefully join these efforts in getting our town spiffed up for summer. Yes, it’s just around the corner.
–Other News
Penny Jarecki from the Greater Polson Community Foundation shared a summary of the Foundation’s giving in the Polson community since 2009. The total amount of $394,054 has been given to organizations and efforts that support the community’s values that were identified through the Heart and Soul Project.
