POLSON — With sunshine and warmer temps, 154 walkers and runners turned up for the three-mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Last year’s race featured lots of snow and cold weather.
This year the trotters did not receive T-shirts; instead all the money raised; $650, went to the Loaves and Fish Food Pantry. Some participants surpassed the $5 entry fee, according to Tyana Smith, Polson Running coordinator and gave generous donations.
Top finishers were fast: Jimmy Bjorge, age 17, came in at 15:58, followed closely by 16-year-old Paden Alexander at 16:06. The top female finisher was Jessica Johnson, 30, with a finishing time of 16:58.
The race began at Century 21 Big Sky Real Estate. Dr. Heninger, Polson Family Eye Care, donated ski goggles to the first male and female finishers. Smith thanked Ric and Sarah Smith, Rich Forbis, Heidi Webber, Erin Heninger and Danielle Sloan for their work behind the scenes. The next race will be a 5K and 10K at the March Meltdown.
