News from Salish Kootenai College

PABLO — The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is offering free tax preparation to low-to moderate-income families earning generally $52,000 per year and less.

Salish Kootenai College students who enrolled in SKC’s tax class received 15 weeks of training to become certified to prepare advanced tax returns through the VITA program.

Free tax assistance is available from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the SKC D’Arcy McNickle Library.

No appointments necessary.

Please bring the following items to the VITA site to have your tax returns prepared:

—Proof of identification

—Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration

—Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

—Current year’s tax package if you received one

—Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers

—Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)

—A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available

—Bank routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit
