MISSOULA — Montana ranchers will find a variety of panel talks and case studies for improving animal performance, pasture health and much more at the 2016 Winter Grazing Seminar, to be held Feb. 2-3 at the Double Tree Hotel in Missoula.
The two-day seminar will feature rangeland specialists, ranch managers and agency professionals from across the Northwest and Canada, according to Stacey Barta, Rangeland Resources Program Coordinator for the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
“This year’s Winter Grazing Seminar will offer a wealth of information for optimizing winter grazing practices, with in-depth discussions of topics such as cover crops, managing winter pastures, feeding methods, all aimed at helping Montana stock growers get the most out of their operations,” Barta said.
The first day of the seminar will feature a panel discussion on winter grazing topics facilitated by Ben Montgomery, District Conservationist in Ronan. Panelists will make brief presentations and also field questions from the audience. The day will wrap up with a no-host social and hors d’oeuvres at Missoula’s Kettlehouse Brewery.
A series of breakout sessions are scheduled for day two of the seminar and feature such topics as conservation easements, alternative forage options, maximizing wildlife habitat grazing, and cover crops.
