New from Lake County USDA Farm Service
RONAN — Lake County USDA Farm Service Agency Executive Director Ed Daugherty reminds livestock producers that they have until Feb. 1, 2016, to enroll in the Livestock Forage Disaster Program.
LFP provides compensation to eligible livestock producers, due to drought in the County, on privately-owned or cash-leased land, federal leases/permits, state leases, and some private AUM leases or fire on federally-managed land. Producers in Lake County are eligible to apply for 2015 LFP benefits on small grain, native pasture, improved pasture, annual ryegrass or forage sorghum, produced on dryland acres and used for grazing. Irrigated acres used for grazing or aftermath grazing are not eligible under this program. Livestock producers are encouraged to contact the Lake County FSA Office with any questions regarding specific crops and production methods that are eligible.
“Prolonged drought conditions have created a need for livestock disaster assistance programs in Lake County,” said CED Daugherty. “I encourage all affected livestock producers to contact the Lake County FSA Office to schedule an appointment to enroll in the program before the Feb. 1 deadline.”
