HELENA — A jury in Helena found Harry Lozeau, 53 of Ronan, guilty of a lesser amended offense of negligent homicide for the shooting death of his brother, 51-year-old Terry Lozeau.
Lozeau fatally shot his brother in the head with a shotgun in June 2014 over a dispute about truck repairs. He was initially charged in Lake County with deliberate homicide and assault with a weapon, both felonies.
Because of local media exposure, the trial was moved to Helena from Lake County to ensure that Lozeau had access to an unbiased jury.
After witnesses on both sides testified, including Lozeau, the jury reached their guilty verdict in one hour and 40 minutes.
Following the two-day trial that began Dec. 29, Lozeau was sentenced to 20 years in Montana State Prison and was credited for 560 days already served. Lozeau must serve at least 10 years before he will be eligible for parole.
