RONAN — The Mission Valley Children’s Choir will begin rehearsals again on Wednesday, Jan 20 from 4-5 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 406 5th Ave. SW in Ronan. The choir is accepting new members from third through sixth graders who want to learn to sing better and to have a good time doing it. It will be directed by Cathy Gillhouse and assisted by Pastor Seth Nelson. Rehearsal will be held on Wednesday afternoons, and refreshments will be served each week. The concert will be held in mid March. Participation in the choir is free of charge.
Many different styles will be sung by the choir from multi-cultural, spirituals, folk songs, seasonal, patriotic, sacred, and show tunes. It is Gillhouse’s goal to expose the children to as many styles of music as possible.
Gillhouse is the former Ronan High School Choir teacher and director of the Ronan Show Choir’s Annual Cabaret. She taught music, mostly choir, in Charlo and Ronan for 41 years. She has also performed in 15 Port Polson plays and musicals. Pastor Seth Nelson has been participating in choirs for 25 years. He composes and performs his own music, had several years of teaching experiences, and sung internationally. He will also accompany the choir on guitar and drums when needed.
Gilhouse and Nelson say they are very excited about continuing this choir and hope that it will remain a fun and educational activity for Mission Valley children for many years to come.
