CHARLO — The American Legion Bud Pelley Post 126 LLC of Charlo recently donated $1,000 to Montana Wounded Warriors to provide residents of Montana, wounded as a result of combat service in Iraq and Afghanistan wars, hunting and fishing opportunities within the state.
Taking teams of two to six wounded Montana veterans into the outdoors for all-expense paid trips gives them time to bond with others who have walked in their boots, according to www.montanawoundedwarriors.org. The trips also give severely-wounded service people the chance to participate in activities they may not have been able to do due to injures, and gives donors the chance to thank them for their service.
The Montana-based non-profit organization consists of an all-volunteer board, with no paid staff. Donations are used to pay for outfitters to provide experience for wounded veterans in high-quality lodging.
Each year Charlo’s Bud Pelley Post does a variety of fundraisers to support the community, such as Montana Boys State. This year the group also voted to donate to Montana Wounded Warriors.
“We would like to thank our Legion Auxiliary and our community for their support,” said Kenneth Soester, commander of American Legion Post 126. “ We are a small veterans organization that still loves to serve our community and country. We are proud to assist our military.”
Montana Wounded Warriors is not affiliated with the national Wounded Warriors Project organization.
