POLSON — Polson High School hosted the Piratepalooza Speech-Debate and Drama meet on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015. Fifteen schools from Western Montana participated in the tournament, including schools from class AA, A, B, and C. This will be the final meet for the month of December.
Polson high medalists included Mollie Lemm and Katelyn Toland who took first place in Public Forum Debate, Annabelle Smith and Sophia Speckert who took sixth place in Policy Debate and
Kenyon Cairns who took seventh place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
Jon Petersen, Polson’s head speech and debate coach said, “It was great to see that Mollie and Katelyn took first place in Public Forum Debate. It is impressive because it was only their second meet in this event.”
In A Speech Polson took third place and Ronan came in second place in B/C Speech. Peterson believes his team is improving even while competing against tough AA teams. “We are going to continue to work hard, and hopefully things will pay off in January when we go to divisionals in Hamilton.”
Many people stepped up to be volunteer judges and Peterson expressed his appreciation noting, “It is great to have such wonderful support from our community. Not only does their assistance help our kids, but I think it is good for community members to see the amazing performances done by our speech, debate, and drama competitors.”
Polson’s next meet is on Saturday, January 9th in Columbia Falls.
