Halloween activities were abundant throughout every Lake County community last weekend, offering healthy, safe fun for families.
More than 180 people came to Ronan Library’s party. Because it was so well-attended last year the party was moved from the library to the Parish Hall at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In addition to traditional games, participants could earn free boots or toilet paper by reading a book and writing a short report.
As well as traditional parties, sporting events were held to encourage healthy lifestyles.
A fun K.I.S.S. swim competition complete with costumes was held in Polson at Mission Valley Aquatic Center. Pirates, princesses and an assortment of superheroes raced or volunteered as scorekeepers during the family-friendly event.
The Flathead Lake Open Water Swimmers held their own Vampire Swim by donating blood to the American Red Cross through Glacier Bank’s blood drive and plunging into Polson Bay to swim a brisk 50-yard course in 56 degree water. The event coincided with several venues across the globe, with more than 400 swimmers participating worldwide.A half-dozen local cold-water enthusiasts, including U.S. Winter Swimming champ Mark Johnston, participated in the charity event at Riverside Park in Polson. Johnston was joined by his wife, Dana, and locals Greg Hobbs, Marlo and Rachael Maddy, Janelle Pruitt and Tristen Flagen.
Halloween was celebrated in Arlee as Club Unity put on a party for the whole community Friday afternoon.The event included fishing for candy, a cakewalk, face painting, and a native game of scream and run.
