POLSON — Lake County law enforcement has seven individuals in custody who are allegedly involved in a string of burglaries motivated by illegal drug use, but are warning residents to continue to be vigilant about securing their homes.

The men are being held on a stockpile of charges for burglarizing homes in the North Crow, Finley Point, Jette Lake and Polson areas.

While progress has been made, Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said there are still other suspects not yet arrested.

It appears the burglars watch to see the daily patterns of people going to work, or look for homes vacated for the winter, according to Bell.

The sheriff’s department has extra patrol in problem areas, Bell said.

The department recently held a meeting in the Jette Lake area that was attended by about 250 residents, encouraging the homeowners to use a good security system, gun safes, good dogs, and “just be a community that notices (things),” Bell said. “It’s about neighborhood watch.”

Bell said if someone sees a moving van or any vehicle that looks suspect at a home, call it in to 406-883-7301.

“Don’t hesitate to call. We’ll investigate,” Bell said.
