Clinic offered to receive chickenpox immunization

POLSON — There could be as many as 200 students in Polson alone that will be affected by the newly-changed Montana Immunization Law, effective Oct. 1, 2015, requiring all K-12 students to have documentation of two varicella (chickenpox) immunizations, or proof of immunity through a laboratory test, or a “Varicella History Documentation” form completed by a medical provider.
The deadline for documentation of the first varicella immunization is Oct. 30, 2015, for children to continue school.
Lake County Health Department is offering an immunization clinic on Monday, Oct. 26, at Polson High School auditorium, during first and second periods. Parents or guardians that complete the proper forms and return them with payment or insurance verification can have their child receive the first varicella immunization on Oct. 26. Paperwork must be returned to the Polson High School office.
Parents may also take their child to their health care provider for the immunization. For more information call the Polson School District office at 406-883-6229, ext. 402.
Grizzly bear struck, killed on Highway 93

RONAN — A male grizzly bear cub from this year was struck and killed last week on Highway 93 at Crow Creek near the scenic turnout south of Ronan.
The young grizzly bear was found along the road by a passing motorist, who reported the discovery. The bear weighed about 100 pounds.
Since Sept. 1 there have been a minimum of 15 bears that have been struck and killed on the Flathead Reservation, including one grizzly bear. This is the third grizzly bear mortality this year reported on the Flathead Indian Reservation .
“This has been a difficult year for bears and will likely continue to be difficult for bears until the snow flies,” said Stacy Courville of the Tribal Wildlife Management Program.

Upgraded meter request is scam

PABLO — There is a new scam going around. Someone is calling Mission Valley Power customers saying that because of the new dam purchase, the meters need to be upgraded and then they try to get funds for the upgrade. This is a negative and untrue scam.
Montana’s largest jackpot hit at KwaTaqNuk

POLSON — S&K Gaming LLC’s KwaTaqNuk Resort awarded Montana’s largest jackpot once again. The $915,524.91 jackpot was won Sept. 28 on an AGS/Cadillac Jack wide area progressive machine called Storm Goddess.
Three previous wide area progressives hits on S&K Gaming properties include $132,803.02 at KwaTaqNuk in June 2013, $753,174.25 at KwaTaqNuk in May 2014 and $235,378.24 at Gray Wolf in June 2014.
Wide area progressive machines are a group of machines that are linked across Indian country in the Class II gaming environment to offer a large jackpot.
