POLSON — During their business meeting on Sept. 10, one of the items the Polson Rural Fire District discussed was the split between the Polson Fire Department and the Polson Rural Fire District.
Polson Rural received a letter on Sept. 2 from Shrives.
In the letter from Shrives, he said no money had been set aside in the Rural’s budget for the annual payment to the City of Polson.
“This clearly indicates,” Shrives’ letter said, “that you have determined that the agreement is not renewed as required by paragraph II.”
In response to the Shrives’ letter, Rural board chair R. Jack Clapp sent a letter to the volunteer firefighters.
Clapp’s letter said, “It has never been suggested by the Board that the interlocal agreement was not renewed and the board has been proceeding under the premise that it was.”
After much discussion, the Rural decided to get on the city commission’s agenda for their Sept. 21 meeting to speak with the commissioners and decide how to move forward.
Clapp urged all community members to come speak on the issue.
“I want to be gut honest; we need support. They are tired of my face,” Clapp said. “We need people to say, ‘Wait a minute, I’m a community member. Why is this in my best interest?’”
