After falling 7-6 in a close contest with a tough Mission-Arlee-Charlo team early in the week, the Ronan Maidens softball team picked up the pace in doubleheaders against Plains Thursday and Florence Saturday.

At Florence, the Maidens split with the Falcons, falling 4-3 in the opener and winning the second game 6-3. In the second game, freshman McKenzie Dulmes had two RBIs, while pitcher Bethany Colman and Ashleigh Lynch also plated runs.

At home Thursday, the visiting Plains Trotters had no luck against a Maidens team hungry to win. All three Ronan seniors, Colman, catcher Lindsay Clairmont and Payge Delaurenti, hit home runs in the first game, which Ronan won 24-0 in five innings after the game was called due to the 10-run margin rule. DeLaurenti was 5 for 5 with a three-run homer, and Clairmont went 3 for 4 with five RBIs. On the mound, Colman allowed only two hits and struck out 11 Plains batters. The second game ended after six innings with Ronan up 13-2. Colman had another two-run homer, with the Maiden batters besting Plains’ hitters 15-1.

“The girls are just working really hard; we’re getting a lot better,” head coach Tom Peterson said.

With several players hitting well, the Maidens will have to keep up their momentum as they head to the Frenchtown Invitational this weekend, where they’re slated to play Anaconda, Stevensville and Butte Central.
