POLSON — For children full of ice cream and maybe a little bored looking at cars and strolling, the Lake County Search and Rescue’s fundraiser at the Kerr Dam soccer fields on Aug. 8 was a great way to cool off in the Slip’N Slide, one of the wading pools or the dunking booth.
With a mini-golf course, bouncy houses, tricycle races, boot races, frisbees and food, the fundraiser was the part of Summerfest just for the younger set.
One grandmother brought her grandchildren back a second time, and Wyatt Moldenhauer spent most of the afternoon in the wading pool and on a trike.
A live foosball game was one of the attractions. Someone saw the idea online, and LSAR member Victor Moldenhauer constructed it. Using PVC pipe for the crosspieces, Moldenhauer taped off an area on the pipe where a kid had to remain. Then they loaded up the hay-corral-sized court with kids to kick the ball, instead of the tiny foosball men.
The group hadn’t seen quite as many kids as they expected, according to Jared Bell, LSAR president, but more youngsters continued to arrive throughout the day.
Lake County Search and Rescue will use funds raised for training and equipment.
