POLSON — Sun bathers and picnickers will need to share Sacajawea Park this weekend because a brand new art festival is coming to town.
The new juried two-day show features the work of nearly 50 fine artists and artisans from Delaware, Arizona, South Carolina, Washington, Idaho and Montana. The art festival’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 16.
The art festival has joined forces with the Flathead Lake Blues Festival, which will provide blues music on Friday and Saturday evening, a great complement to the art show during the day. For tickets for the blues festival, see their website at FlatheadLakeBluesFestival.com.
“This is the first time we’ve had a two-day show,” said Carole Carberry, Flathead Lake Festival of Art co-chair. “We have a nice assortment of artists.”
Missoula sculptor Mary Ann Eikens will display some of her cast bronze animals, which are spectacular, Carberry said, adding that Eikens continues to make a name for herself with her bronzes.
Rick McCollum, hand-built guitar maker from Paradise, will be displaying his newest creations. He’s been a guitar maker for 25 years. In addition to beautiful full-size guitars, Carberry said McCollum will bring some of his unique “snail” guitars. With full-sized fretboards, they provide the ideal musical traveling companion for guitar enthusiasts.
Delica bead weaver Jan Brooks creates small beaded wall hangings, intricate in color and detail. Her necklaces are true statement pieces, Carberry said.
Sherry Jones, Polson jewelry maker, is an ever-evolving artist, according to Carberry. She incorporates leather, handmade pottery beads, semi-precious stones and hand-forged metal in her jewelry.
