RONAN — After each class of market lambs, judge Rod Everson, Florence, asked the crowd for a round of applause for the hardworking 4-H kids showing their sheep.
Everson has been involved in 4-H his whole life. First, when he raised and showed market beef, then when his children were in 4-H and now that he judges fairs around the state.
He and his wife “raise sheep, cattle, horses, dogs and kids.”
After high school and college, Everson showed cattle and sheep professionally, so he knows what he’s doing in a showmanship class as well as a market class.
“I just love kids,” Everson said, explaining why he judges at 4-H fairs and helps youngsters.
As he gave reasons for the way he placed the championship class, Everson commented that for lambs weighing 122 to 165 pounds, they “all packed a pretty good finish.” All around, he said the Lake County Fair lambs were good quality.
