RONAN – The Ronan Maidens softball team got their season off on the right foot March 27 as they downed Deer Lodge at home 11-1, before falling to a stout Hamilton team two days later, 12-2.

“We won the game that mattered,” head coach Tom Peterson said. “It’s the first part of the season, so we’re still figuring (things) out.”
Against Deer Lodge, the Maidens were down 1-0 after the opening inning, but the Maidens exploded with a seven-run third inning and never looked back.

Ronan put up another run in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning to win by 10.

Ronan pitcher Bethany Colman threw a two-hitter, picking up the win in the circle over Delaney Knuchel.

Colman fanned 10 Wardens and walked three more. Payge Delaurenti had a bases-loaded double and four RBIs to pace the Maidens.

Teammate Turquoise Haggard tacked on a two-run single, and scored twice, while Ashleigh Lynch and Alaina Madsen both finished with an RBI.

On Thursday, Ronan hosted a talented Hamilton squad. The Lady Broncs buried the Maidens with a 10-run third inning to end the game in five innings due to the 10-run margin rule.

Ronan led 2-0 in the first inning as Colman and McKenzie Dulmes each singled for the Maidens. The Lady Broncs fired back with a 10-run third inning performance, with the help of a grand slam by Shyalyn Mohn.

Hamilton pitcher Rebecka Hood made it difficult on Ronan, only allowing two hits in the game.

The Maidens were scheduled to travel to Eureka Saturday, but that game was postponed due to rain. Ronan hosted Mission Tuesday and has Easter weekend off before traveling to Hamilton Thursday, April 12.
