Fireworks banned for rest
of year in Ronan
RONAN — Mayor Kim Aipperspach followed suit of many other governments in banning fireworks during the Fourth of July weekend by emergency order, but the fun sparks won’t be allowed in Ronan from now through New Years Eve.
The Ronan City Council approved of an emergency ordinance July 20 that bans fireworks through Dec. 31 because of high fire danger. It can be repealed if fire danger subsides.
A wayward firework left one Ronan family homeless after it sent their home up in smoke on July 1. Consequences for violating the fireworks ordinance within city limits is a written first warning, an $85 fine for a second offense, and a $500 fine for a third offense. Under state law individuals may be held liable for any inadvertent property damage caused by accidental fires. Fire danger on the Flathead Reservation has been hovering between “extreme” and “very high” in recent days.
