POLSON – The fifth-ranked Lady Pirate basketball team picked up a pair of wins last week over Eureka and Columbia Falls, improving to 4-1 in conference play and 11-3 overall. Riley Kenney remains unstoppable, scoring 19 against the Lions, followed by a 14-point performance against the Wildkats on Saturday.
Against Eureka, Polson got off to a slow start, leading 7-6 at the beginning of the second quarter. The Lady Pirates began picking up the pace in the second stanza, and began building a convincing lead by outscoring the Lions 15-6.
Polson held Eureka to only two point in the third, and coasted to a big non conference victory, winning 43-26.
Kenney led the way with 19, while Mackenzie Banner tacked on another eight. Mariah Hamel and Anna DiGiallonardo both contributed five.
For Eureka, Alyssa White led her team with eight points, while Cassidy Morgan and Alex Holland put up seven.
The loss moved Eureka’s record to 7-8 overall.
On Saturday, the Lady Pirates hosted down-on-their-luck Columbia Falls, where a trio of Polson players finished in double digits to pace the Lady Pirates to a 48-29 win.
Kenney led the trio with 14 points, while Heidi Rausch added 11 and Hamel put up 10.
Polson led 9-6 after the opening eight minutes of play, but Columbia Falls rallied in the second to tie the game 18-18 at halftime. Polson used a 15-7 run in the third to take control of the game, giving them an eight point lead entering the final quarter. Polson continued to keep the Wildkats from putting up big numbers, rolling to a 48-39 victory.
Columbia Falls was led by Hope Burlage’s 14 points, while teammate Haley Belgarde added eight.
Polson continues its regular season against Corvallis at home Feb. 10 and travels to Libby Feb. 11.
