The Ronan Maidens girls’ basketball team picked up its fourth win of the season Saturday, defeating Troy on senior night 43-39. Earlier in the week, the Maidens hosted a tough Deer Lodge team at home, where the Wardens’ disruptive full-court press defense made it tough for the Maidens to get the ball down the court.
The Wardens jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the opening quarter and went on an 11-6 run to close out the first half, leading 29-10.
It was a game of catch-up for the Maidens from then on, but the Wardens’ opening-half lead proved to be the difference, as Deer Lodge won big, 50-29.
Raymi Clairmont led Ronan with 12 points, while Ashley Grandchamp finished with eight, and Courtney Clairmont added seven.
Deer Lodge was led by Dani Walker’s 10 points, while Shelby Applegate and Cassy Graveley both contributed eight. The win moved the Wardens to 5-2 in conference and 9-6 overall.
On Saturday, the Maidens hosted Troy, where the Maidens squeaked by a late 20-8 run by the Lady Trojans to secure their fourth victory of the season, winning 43-39.
It was all Ronan in the first half, as Ronan led 6-2 at the beginning of the second, and built a 20-12 lead by the break.
The Maidens continued to play solid defense in the third, holding Troy to only seven points, while the Maidens put up an additional 15, heading into the final stanza with a convincing 35-19 lead.
The Lady Trojans exploded in the fourth, scoring more points in the final eight minutes than the first three quarters combined. The Maidens were able to combat the scoring outburst by putting up another eight points, securing a 43-39 win.
Raymi Clairmont led the way with 14 points, while Courtney Clairmont added nine. Ashleigh Lynch added another six, while Brianna Frank scored four. The Maidens close out their regular season this week, playing Mission Feb. 9, and hosting Columbia Falls Feb. 10.
