Scarlets edge Bulldogs, Noxon in thrillers

ST. IGNATIUS – Whitney Malatare’s 3-pointer was enough to put the Scarlets into overtime against the Mission Lady Bulldogs Feb 2. Malatare also scored five points in the extra minutes and finished the game with 16 points.
Mahalia Hendren and Alexis Shick also scored 16 each.
Mission’s Bryanna Steele led all scorers with 21 points, including a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in the game, which prompted Malatare’s last-second shot.
Loren Erickson added 11 for the Lady Bulldogs.
On Feb. 4, Mission fell to Loyola 56-37 as Sacred Heart’s Maddie Keast scored 21 points, including going five for six from the 3-point line. Teammate Kiernan Haggarty added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Steele paced the Lady Bulldogs with 12 followed by Katrina Stevens with 11.
Mission is now 1-6 in conference play and 2-13 overall. They host Ronan Feb. 9 and travel to Troy Feb. 11.
The Scarlets were once again in the hot seat Feb. 3, this time facing the Red Devils in Noxon.
Hendren was ice as she sank two free throws to vault her team past the Red Devils, 51-49. Hendren scored 18 points and Malatare had 15.
The Scarlets (5-2, 8-6) host Charlo Feb. 10 and Hot Springs Feb. 11.
