CHARLO – The Charlo Vikings boys basketball team continues to play solid basketball as postseason play nears. Last week, Charlo went 2-1, defeating Mission in a make-up game Jan. 30, followed by a loss to Superior and a win over Philipsburg to end the week.

Against Mission, Dillon Delaney and Tra Ludeman came ready to knock down some shots, as they both put up 16 points each, helping the Vikings win 61-54. Webb O’Neill continued to be a big contributor for Charlo, finishing the game with 12, while teammate Stephen Delaney also tallied 12.

Charlo trailed early in the first, as Mission took a quick 10-5 lead into the second quarter. The Vikings didn’t let up, though, outscoring Mission 14-11 in the second frame to pull within two points at the break.

Mission held the lead in the third, but a 14-10 run by Charlo in the fourth quarter tied the game 47-47. The Vikings held Mission to only seven points in the overtime period, while Charlo scored 14 to win 61-54.

On Friday, Charlo traveled to Superior, where a strong fourth quarter push by the Vikings wasn’t enough to topple the 14-C No. 2 Bobcats, falling 58-55.

The game was tied 13-13 after the first eight minutes of play, but Superior began building a lead in the second, outscoring Charlo 16-8 to lead 29-21 at the half.

Charlo held Superior to only four points in the third quarter, to pull within two points at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Both teams exploded offensively in the fourth, as Charlo sent the ball sailing from three point land, hitting four 3-pointers, three of which came from senior Kolten Andrews, who finished with a game-high 19 points. The Bobcats outscored Charlo 25-24, pulling out a 58-55 win.

Dillon Delaney tapped in 17 points, while Stephen Delaney added nine. Ludeman tacked on five points.

The win was Superior’s sixth straight, improving the Bobcats to 6-4 in conference and 10-4 overall.

On Saturday, Charlo hosted its final home game of the season against Philipsburg, honoring seniors Dillon Delaney, Stephen Delaney and Andrews during senior night.

The Vikings started hot and never let up, leading 50-24 at halftime and rolling to an 80-40 win.

O’Neill led Charlo with a game-high 19 points, while Dillon Delaney added 16. Ludeman added 12, while Andrews tallied 11.

The Vikings wrap up their final week of the regular season on the road Feb. 9 against Hot Springs and Feb. 10 against Arlee.
