POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners toppled visiting Cranbrook, British Columbia, 8-2 Sunday afternoon in a nonconference matchup at O’Malley Park.
While Nyqolas Gillingham pitched four innings and held Cranbrook to just one run, Mariners slugger Bransen Krebs drove in three runs to lead his team, picking up the first two off a double in the fifth inning. Derek Peel went 3 for 4, scoring two runs and adding an RBI, while Justin Young tallied two RBIs and a run. Jonah Burke added another pair of runs for the Mission Valley squad.
Earlier in the week the Mariners hosted the Glacier Twins for a doubleheader June 16, and the Kalispell team proved too much for Mission Valley in both rounds. In the opener, Derek Peel, who also threw the whole game, went 2 for 2 with a single and a double, and Jacob Harrod and Gillingham each had an RBI. After five innings, the game was tied until Glacier scored two unanswered runs in the eighth to win 5-3.
In the nightcap, Glacier charged out of the gate with a five-run first inning, setting the stage for a blowout 10-2 victory behind Johnny Sapa on the mound. Peel was 3 for 3 with an RBI, and Krebs drove in the other run for the Mission Valley squad.
The Mariners host the Bitterroot Bucs at 4 p.m. today before traveling to Libby this weekend.
