POLSON — Easels, palettes and paintbrushes were visible all around the area as 19 artists gathered for the 2012 Reservation Views Plein Air Paint-Out from June 14 to 17.
The artists turned in their work, a culmination of four days of painting, on June 16, according to Mary Kelley, who along with Kelly Apgar, chaired the committee for the paint-out.
“We had a great time,” Kelley said, “and the weather cooperated.”
This year the committee sponsored group painting spots on different days, since some artists had shown interest in painting together. One day was at Ninepipe Wildlife Refuge, one at Polson Farmers Market and the last at Big Arm State Park.
The Sandpiper Gallery hung the paintings, and the exhibition began Tuesday. Gallery visitors can vote on a painting to select a people’s choice.
The paint-out committee will choose the Sandpiper Select painting, Kelley said. The criteria will be which best exemplifies plein air painting and the reservation.
Prizes will be awarded July 6 at a reception held from 5 to 7 p.m.
