ARLEE — The Jocko Valley Food Pantry started as a local church effort to help feed the hungry. Today, this effort still provides food for families and individuals and has become a community project.
Community volunteer Andy Fisher said local individuals, organizations and entities provide all food donations.
“Our clientele is fairly steady with a little rise during the holidays,” Fisher said.
Fisher mentioned the last couple of weeks they have been hit harder than usual, but their numbers are up significantly.
“It varies every week,” he added. “We serve several dozen families but they don’t come every month.”
He said the Bison Range recently donated a bison to the pantry and they now have a freezer full of hamburger.
“We are a small pantry,” Fisher said of a small army of volunteers. “We are not a top-heavy organization. People show up and we give them food.”
The Jocko Valley Food Pantry operates out of the Jocko Valley Lutheran Church and is open every Saturday, except the first Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Food donations can be dropped off at the Jocko Valley Lutheran Church. Monetary donations can be mailed to the Jocko Valley Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 257, Arlee, MT. You can also drop off your donation to the Arlee CDC office located in the Valley Bank of Arlee.
