PABLO — Two Eagle River School celebrates its 40th year in existence this year, and the class of 2015 carried the torch forward at graduation on May 30.
Following the processional by Bronson McDonald, Wayne McCoy gave a prayer to begin graduation.
The commencement speaker has worked at TERS for 36 of its 40 years.
“I have seen Cheryl give her heart, soul and dedication to TERS,” said Rodney Bird, new TERS Superintendent, as he introduced Cheryl Morigeau.
With five graduates the first year, the school started small, but now a total of 610 students have graduated from TERS, according to Morigeau.
“Graduation is not the end. It’s the beginning,” she said. “When you find your dream, get after it … you have to have a direction in which to go,” she said.
TERS students are heading to college, a new job, starting a family, or travel, she said.
“You are the future of this school, this tribe and the world,” Morigeau said.
On behalf of the Salish Kootenai College Board of Directors and the school, Cleo Kenmille awarded an SKC tuition scholarship for the freshman year to Nathaniel Brooks, Kamiah Payne, Brandon Drake, Ma-lee Bigcrane, Jerome Finley, Carmelita Malatare, Jacquelyn Wright, Delray Conko-Joseph and William Michel.
If the students earn a 3.0 or better grade point average their first year at SKC, then the tuition scholarship extends for their sophomore year, Kenmille said.
After diplomas were presented by Rollie Sullivan and Felicia Paul, the graduates were honored at a reception in the TERS commons.
