POLSON — Dogs at the Mission Valley Animal Shelter made a big impression on a group of Girl Scouts from Pablo Elementary School, so much so that Troop 3422 donated their cookie money to help build an agility course for the pooches.
“We had eight girls when we first started selling cookies. We gave the girls a list of ideas, and they all shouted out ‘the animal shelter,’ so we took a field trip out there,” Frances Stokes, co-troop leader said.
Maizy Blixt was the troop’s top cookie seller with a total of 750 boxes.
“The girls came to the shelter, did some volunteer work, socialized the cats and met the dogs,” according to Jill Simpson, MVAS director.
Simpson gave the girls a list of things the shelter needed, and they voted to spend their $500 on an agility course for the dogs, Stokes said.
Part of the course has already been constructed, thanks to Salish Kootenai College employee volunteers. It’s wonderful for the pups.
“The dogs get so bored out there,” Simpson said.
Stokes and co-leader Amanda Blixt said they have six members who attend meetings all the time. On May 29, when the girls presented their check to Simpson, they also got another tour of the shelter and they brought their brothers.
