POLSON — An upcoming seminar will teach participants how take steps in advance to avoid situations where self-defense is necessary.
The NRA’s “Refuse to be a Victim” class, taught by certified instructor Tracy Plaiss, will be held Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the North Lake County Library meeting room in Polson.
The seminar presentation is designed to help people put together a personal defense plan with simple, inexpensive, and immediately applicable ideas to make life safer for individuals and their families —with lots of “aha!” moments, according to Plaiss.
The safety tips and techniques offer a proactive approach to safety rather than reactive, to lessen the risk of a criminal attack. Topics cover home, personal, workplace, automobile and technological safety to help people avert dangerous situations by not being an easy target.
“The vast majority of people who survive (an attack) do so because they decided to survive,” she said. “It’s not about turning into a Ninja. If that is part of your defense plan, great; but not everyone can do that.”
The class is extremely beneficial, according to participant Bonnie Mueller.
“She teaches in a way that makes you aware, but not with fear,” Mueller said. “Young adults graduating and leaving home are a group that could benefit greatly from this class.”
Anyone interested needs to call Tracy at 406-471-2333 to reserve a seat. There is a $25 fee that covers the cost of handouts.
