PABLO — A close-up photograph of a horse’s eye and head drew people to the wall of student photographs and drawings at Two Eagle River School’s Art Slam May 20. Other flat surfaces and display cases celebrated a school year’s worth of student work — paintings, ribbon shirts, beaded projects, sculptures, hand drums and even a small tipi frame.
While galley goers could look their fill,
the annual event brought out the singers, musicians and writers to perform their art in front of their peers and school staff.
“It’s crazy how life is and crazy how life was,” student Tyrell Lovegrove said in one of his pieces. “I’ve been writing lyrics since I’ve been in the fifth grade.”
He wants to attend college in Tempe, Arizona, and take a program that combines music, audio and sound recording.
There were prose pieces, too. One written by Jerome Finley discussed the need for real life experiences, not just “a brick classroom.” Finley used the example of field dressing a deer. He said a person can read about it, but that’s not the same as actually gutting the animal.
