POLSON — Special Olympics athletes received some additional funds from the Knights of Columbus, Father O’Malley Council 6260 as they gear up for the Montana State Special Olympics in Missoula May 19-22.
“We call it our Tootsie Roll fund,” said Rodney McElwee, Grand Knight of the group.
The Knights of Columbus give out Tootsie Rolls and sometimes people will donate. They give 80 percent of the money to Special Olympics locally. The other 20 percent goes to the Montana Knights of Columbus, who donate to Special Olympics at the state level.
This year the Tootsie Roll fund netted about $300 for Mission Mountain Enterprises athletes, and McElwee handed the check to Brody Moll, MME director.
