News from Salish Kootenai College Spirit of the Bison Club
PABLO — The Spirit of the Bison club would like to take this time to thank everyone who attended our SKC Powwow and Graduate Honoring that was held May 8 and 9 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center. Our students worked hard this year and consisted primarily of three students: Stormie Perdash, Angela Lukes and Ronald Harris. The “Spirit of the Bison” club is a student organization on the Salish and Kootenai College campus that is in its fifth year of formation. We very much appreciated and would like to say a big thank you to our Head Man Dancer, Ardon McDonald and to our Head Woman Dancer, Kree Star Burnett, as well as to all the individuals, departments and businesses that helped to make this event the huge success that it was. A special thank you goes out to our emcee Tyson Shay for making the powwow run smoothly, as well to Jordan Stasso for running the floor and to the Warrior Society and Gary Adolph for their donation and providing the flags.
This year’s powwow had more than 15 drums and 150 contest dancers. We also had 10 vendors at the powwow. The club members were rewarded with great feedback from many people in the community and participants on what a well-run powwow it was.
The Spirit of the Bison Student Organization would like to thank and recognize these businesses and community sponsors:
— Salish and Kootenai College Administration
— SKC Student Senate
— The KwaTaqNuk Resort and Casino
— Kootenai Tribe of Idaho
— SKC Foundation
— TRiO Student Support Services
— Joe’s Jiffy Stop
— Tracie McDonald
— Kevin Burland
The club hopes to see everyone again next year and wishes everyone a happy, safe and fun summer ahead.
