RONAN — Members of the community are grieving the loss of Ronan City Council member Richard W. Jungers.
Jungers died of natural causes on Sunday at St. Luke’s Community Hospital in Ronan.
A prominent member of the community, friends and fellow council members have noted that his presence will be sorely missed throughout Ronan. Jungers was a vocal member of the city council since 2005.
“He’s just an icon and someone who’s always been there for the community,” Carlene Bockman said, who was a close friend of Jungers.
Bockman noted that Jungers was also a supporter of Ronan High School sports, especially wrestling.
Besides the Ronan city council, Jungers was also a former member of the Ronan Chamber of Commerce, an avid fisherman, fierce cribbage opponent, and former owner of the Pheasant Bar in Ronan for 29 years.
Jungers is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma, and their four children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Rosary will be held Friday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Mission Catholic Church. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Mission Catholic Church, followed by a 1 p.m. reception at the Ronan Community Center. This will be a potluck with BYOB.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ronan Wrestling Club, 47123 Hughes Rd., Ronan, MT 59864.
