PABLO — An English language instructor is adrift in the American West. While her students find stability and community, she veers toward crisis. The film is a meditation on displacement and adaptation in the contemporary American West. Bella Vista follows the lives of outsiders in Missoula. Teaching English to a group of international students, 30-something Doris finds herself increasingly alone. While she grasps for the connection that might save her, it’s her students who understand what it takes to belong.
Art in America called the film “an emotional, meditative work,” and the Oregonian review said it’s “an affecting study of the American psyche.”
Bella Vista will screen at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theater on the campus of Salish Kootenai College in Pablo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. There is no charge for the screening. The director, Vera Brunner-Sung, producers Jeri Rafter and Brooke Swaney will attend as well as cast members Sam Sandoval and David Weinandy and will be available to answer questions following the screening.
