Editor,
As the world reaches out to help those suffering in Japan, we would like to make you aware of an opportunity to assist Japanese students at The University of Montana. Sixty-five Japanese students are part of our community at UM in Missoula. All have been profoundly affected by the natural disaster in their country.
The University is reaching out to our Japanese students in many ways, including offering financial assistance to those in need. Students may need to travel home. Others have families with significant financial losses. The students face months of uncertainty. You can help ease their burden through The University of Montana Foundation’s Foreign Student Assistance Fund. You may give online or mail a check. Please designate your gift for the Foreign Student Assistance Fund/Japan.
To give directly to the relief effort in Japan, please contact the American Red Cross or one of the other international relief agencies involved in this effort.
Since the days when alumnus Mike Mansfield was U.S. ambassador to Japan, UM has had a strong connection to the Japanese people. Your support of the Japanese students at UM is one way you can be personally involved in continuing this tradition. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Royce Engstrom
President
University of Montana
