Judge C.B. McNeil dealt with the following cases Wednesday, Feb. 29:

Randal Michell Jr., 25, St. Ignatius, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for five years, all suspended, for theft, a felony.

According to court documents, charges stem from a May 2011 incident where Michell entered a home in Arlee and stole three rifles, alcoholic beverages, backpacks and other items.

Mark William Ardis, 22, Polson, in a change of plea, admitted to the amended offense of deceptive practices, a misdemeanor. He was found guilty and sentenced to six months, all suspended, in the Lake County Jail.

According to court documents, charges stem from incidences in September 2011 when Ardis used a credit card from the Tribal Fatherhood Program to purchase gasoline from the Polson Town Pump on seven separate occasions for his personal vehicle and vehicles belonging to his family members and girlfriend. The transactions totaled $555.86. The Tribal Fatherhood Program reported the card missing and showed that Ardis had access to it and used it without permission.

Arnold Sherwood, 37, St. Ignatius, had his 2007 suspended sentence for burglary, a felony, revoked and was sentenced to three years in the Montana State Prison. He will receive credit for all time served while in custody.

According to court documents, Sherwood violated his probation by traveling outside of his assigned probation district without notifying his probation officer (he was arrested in Billings for disorderly conduct in December 2011), consuming alcohol on multiple occasions and testing positive for methamphetamine.

Judge Deborah Kim Christopher dealt with the following case Thursday, March 1:

Jamie Dickson, 26, Elmo, had her sentence for theft, a felony, deferred for two years. According to court documents, charges stem from an August 2011 incident where Dickson deprived a man of unemployment benefits by forging the victim’s name on the victim’s Montana Unemployment Insurance check in the amount of $1,843. The check was deposited into Dickson’s bank account. The two people share a post office box and the victim was in the hospital when the check arrived at the post office. On Aug. 24, the victim called a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy and reported his stolen unemployment check. In an interview with the deputy, Dickson said she lives in the same home as the victim and admitted depositing the check into her account after forging his signature on the check.
