CHARLO – There was little discussion March 17 as the Charlo School Board voted to hire principal Steve Love as superintendent.
Per the contract, Love will have to obtain the proper education endorsements within the next two years. The district will reimburse Love for up to $5,000 of the cost of obtaining those endorsements. His salary will be set at $70,000 for the first year, with later salaries to be negotiated. He will receive health insurance and 21 days of vacation.
Love has taught for 14 years in Charlo, and has spent eight as a school administrator. Love succeeds Thom Peck, who led the district for three years.
In other business the school board set a finance committee meeting for March 31 to plan the upcoming year’s budget. Peck predicts increases in state education funding will not be enough to offset the impact of decreased enrollment and that the school will face an approximate $70,000 decrease in funding from the current school year.
