RONAN — Freshly minted wrestling champion Cole Snyder, 18, was charged with two felony counts for distribution of dangerous drugs and sexual abuse of children after being arrested upon return from the state wrestling tournament on Feb. 15.
Authorities say several additional minors have been implicated in drug-related crimes at Ronan High School, and the investigation is an ongoing effort between the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and the Ronan School District.
“Through a tip to the school the investigation was started through Lake County Sheriff’s Office about drug related sales and use,” Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said.
Snyder was taken off the school bus and immediately arrested after the bus returned from the state championship, where he took home top honors in the 126-pound weight class.
Details on exactly what led to the felony charges were sparse, with documents not filed in Lake County District Court as of Monday morning. Snyder appeared in Lake County Justice Court last week.
“At this point I encourage folks to put focus on their own children and make sure they are aware of their activities,” Superintendent Andy Holmlund said.
