POLSON — The Polson Youth Soccer Board brought information about their annexation proposal to the City Commissioners at the Feb. 2 commission meeting.

Polson City Manager Mark Shrives said the soccer group had spoken  with him a couple of weeks ago.

After this information presentation, Shrives said the group would return Feb. 18 to seek approval from the City Commission for their proposals.

Joslyn Shackelford presented the annexation proposal for the soccer board. The soccer board owns 20 acres north of the Mission Valley Aquatics Center, and northwest of Lake View Cemetery.

The land was previously owned by the cemetery, Shackleford said, and is zoned medium density. The group is asking for annexation into the city for city water and sewer services. The property is landlocked, but they have a grant easement from Ridgewater Development.

On the east side of their 20 acres, utilizing 8.5 acres of the property, the soccer association plans to build four standard soccer fields, sloped viewing areas, a warm-up area, bathrooms. a concession stand andparking for regular vehicles and motorcoaches.

They are working with developer Mike Maddy for easement through his property for proposed entry and exit roads.

Commissioners asked questions about irrigation and maintenance of the fields.

Shackleford said underground irrigation systems will be used and the soccer board will maintain the fields, doing all the mowing and marking.

Commissioners also approved a service plan for the city.

The next city commission meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. since Monday, Feb. 16, is President’s Day, a holiday for city staff.
