Pirates to send 17 to state wrestling tourney, Ronan Chiefs win 5 individual titles

WHITEFISH - The Pirates and Chiefs dominated the championship round of the Northwestern A Divisional Wrestling Tournament Saturday as the two teams combined to win 11 of the 15 weight classes at the event.
The Pirates earned their second straight divisional title with their performance at the meet, finishing with 232 points to top second-place Columbia Falls, which finished with 200.5 points.
Open weight classes once again cost the Chiefs in their bid for a divisional title as Ronan won five weight classes but finished fourth as a team with 145 points.
The Pirates will send 17 wrestlers to the state tournament in Butte this weekend while the Chiefs will send eight.
Polson's six divisional champions included Carlos Quinones, who pinned teammate Lucas Polk in the 98-pound final in 4:36. Craig Feistner pinned Ronan's Chase Rhine in 1:08 in the 112-pound final. Jacob Young picked up an 11-6 decision over Columbia Falls wrestler Kohl Thompson in the 135-pound weight class. Mike Devlin won the 152-pound division by pinning Libby's Robin Kyes in 1:46 and Josiah Clairmont won the heavyweight division by pinning Cody Bartos of Columbia Falls in 1:05.
Ronan's five divisional champions include Nate Brooks, who pinned Adam Richardson of Columbia Falls in 1:01 to win the 130-pound weight class. Dustin Goldsby won the 145-pound weight class by pinning Libby's Joshua Bowers in 3:01. Cole McArthur pinned Libby's Austin Bailey in 2:16 to win the 171-pound division. Defending state champion Toby Cheff pinned Marcus Ross of Columbia Falls in 2:16 to win the 189-pound weight class and Colby Roberts picked up a 6-4 decision over Polson's David Plant to win the 215-pound weight class.
Also headed to the state tournament for Polson are Taylor Martin, Drew Fouty, Jesse Alfiero, Jose Quinones, Alex Nystrom, Skylar Anderson, Jared Young, Colton Lenz and Marlin Burke.
Along with their five divisional champions, the Chiefs will be sending Andrew Tiegan, Carston Baertsch and Rhine to the state tournament.
In Class A, only the top four divisional placers at each weight advance to state.
