PABLO — Area coaches of all teams and age groups will have an opportunity to learn from the best as Salish Kootenai College hosts The HOOP May 15-17.
The basketball clinic faculty features elite coaches such as Tara VanDerveer, a U.S. Olympic and Hall-of-Famer who currently coaches women’s basketball at Stanford University; her sister Heidi VanDerveer, head coach of UC San Diego women’s basketball; and Nike Skills Trainer Gannon Baker, who has worked with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
“We’ve never had anything like this in this region,” said organizer Juan Perez, women’s head basketball coach for SKC.
Perez is shooting to host 300 coaches, from “itty-bitty dribblers” to college level. The clinic’s goal is to encourage positive basketball experiences and lasting inspiration. Over time, Perez said, the skills learned can impact thousands of young people.
“Coaches can make a big difference in young people’s lives,” he said. “We want to give them the tools to make a positive experience for young people.”
The three-day coaching clinic is just $65. Coaches can register online at thehoop.skc.org
