POLSON – A Ronan man pleaded guilty yesterday to negligent homicide charges resulting from an Oct. 22, 2014 shooting death of a 3-year-old.
Galen Hawk, 26, kept his eyes downcast and answered in one word answers of “yes” to questions posed by his defense attorney about the events that led to the death of 3-year-old Lonato Moran-Allen.
Hawk admitted that he entered the residence where the child was killed with a pistol and the boy ended up dead because of his negligence. Details about how the death occurred were sparse.
Hawk previously told investigators after the incident that he had accidentally shot the child in a game of play “gun tag” after a night of drinking.
A pre-sentence investigation into the case was slated as was a neuropsychological evaluation; a sentencing date was still pending.
Hawk also pleaded guilty to a felony drinking and driving case that resulted from a Dec. 29, 2012 incident where Hawk was stopped by a St. Ignatius police officer after driving in the wrong lane of traffic. A breath test indicated Hawk’s blood alcohol concentration was .162. Hawk has three prior DUIs issued through tribal court.
Attorneys said Hawk will be transferred to Flathead Tribal Jail to serve 30 days owed in previous convictions. He will remain in custody at all times.
