Editor,
Good feelings are so nice - if perhaps a bit scarce in today’s political climate. When my husband John and I left the Lincoln-Reagan dinner, hosted by the Lake County Republican Central Committee on Saturday, Oct. 8, we were brimming over with good feelings. Under the versatile leadership of Chairman Rick Breckenridge, the evening was a wonderful success. From his musical talents - he accompanied himself on the guitar, for instance, singing “You picked a fine time to lead us, Barak,” (to the tune of Kenny Rogers’ “Lucille”) to his great auctioneering skills, Rick kept the pace of the evening moving at a good clip.
Public Service Commissioner Bill Gallagher was a wonderful MC with a nice mixture of humor and seriousness. Keynote speaker Denny Rehberg made me actually think that our junior Montana senator who cast the final vote to ensure the passage of Obamacare would be forced to move on in November 2012.
The other Republican candidates who spoke or were represented by someone because of prior commitments displayed a variety of solid conservative values. I felt heartened by an undeniable unity of purpose. We are all residents of a state and a country where individual responsibility and an unselfish intention to do what’s right still count. We all are grateful to be both Montanans and Americans. We can and will reclaim the prosperity that is intrinsic in our lives. We have a right to pass on our shared blessings to our children. Life still promises opportunities to be successful to all.
John and I enjoyed a lively interaction with two of Denny Rehberg’s delightful staffers, Carly and Kristen, as we waited in line for the scrumptious meal prepared by Ricciardi’s Grills Gone Wild. We saw our fellow Republicans at their best - having fun, coming together to work for a better future for everyone.
I would urge anyone who would like to join in the effort to take back our state and our country to do so. I know that many are just too busy to be very active politically. But everyone can vote.
