RONAN — Baby Daniel James Cartwright, Jr. was the first baby born in 2015 for Lake County and much of western Montana.
Baby Cartwright rang in the New Year, Jan. 1, at 12:54 p.m. at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. The bouncing baby boy weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and joined three siblings, mother Lynn Zeiler, and father, Daniel Cartwright.
Zeiler said the family expected Baby Daniel to make his appearance around the first of the year.
“We’re just excited he’s finally here,” Zeiler said.
The tiny tot received a gift basket put together by the hospital and local businesses.
Hospital spokeswoman Brooke Roberts said she believes Daniel was the first baby born in the region. He arrived before Missoula and Polson hospitals’ first babies of the year.
“It can sometimes take a few days before one is born,” Roberts said.
Dr. Paul Gochis delivered the baby.
