ARLEE — The Arlee girls’ volleyball team beat St. Regis last week (25-19, 25-15, 25-15).
“We won but I thought the girls played timid,” Head Coach Brian Big Sam said.
Big Sam said this season the team is trying to get senior setter Cortney Dix more hits.
The Arlee team had a total of 24 kills, Dix had nine kills, Becca Nelson had seven and Mahalia Hendren had five.
“Her (Dix) hitting has come around,” Big Sam said. “She recently signed with Butte Tech as a setter.”
Dix also had 10 assists and five aces in the match. Big Sam said that Bailey Rice has stepped in as setter for Dix and she contributed eight assists. Sophomore Whitney Malatare also stepped up and had five digs and one block in the game.
They all contributed and hitting was good,” Big Sam said. “It’s only going to get better.”
In Arlee’s win over Victor (25-17, 25-8, 25-17) the team had a combined total of 26 aces.
Nelson had eight, Dix had five and Malatare five. Dix and Nelson shared the team’s 17 kills with 10 and seven respectively. Malatare had 17 digs and Hendren had 11. Dix also had 10 assists and Rice had 3.
The Scarlets face Phillipsburg on Monday, Hot Springs on Friday and Charlo on Saturday.
