News from the Montana Department of Revenue
HELENA – The Montana Department of Revenue announced the release of its Biennial Report on Friday. The 385-page publication provides detailed information on taxes administered by the department and tax collections for the biennium between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2014. Montana law requires that the Department of Revenue publish the report every two years and submit it to the governor and legislature. It is available to the public online at revenue.mt.gov under the What’s New section.
Taxes that the Department of Revenue collects and distributes across the state contribute to an overall improvement of Montana’s quality of life, with:
• 32.4 percent of all revenue allocated to education
• 30.6 percent to public safety, welfare and health
• 20.7 percent to natural resources and infrastructure
• 13.7 percent to administrative, legislative and judicial costs
• 2.6 percent to interest on debt
Previous biennial reports are available online at revenue.mt.gov under “Publications.”
