Mission Middle and High School students got parents and community members into a singing and foot-tapping groove by the end of the annual Holiday Concert hosted Dec. 16.

The night started off with high school choir lifting their voices with a rendition of “A Christmas Trilogy” and “Bell Carol of the Kings.” The enthusiastic performers were accompanied by pianist Lindsay Johnson, and later in the show the group brought out their jazz hands for a snazzed up rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

Seventh and eighth grade band students broke out the instruments for more high-energy tunes including “Jammin’ on the Rooftop” and “Instant Christmas Concert.” High school musicians joined the youngsters for a roof rattling performance of “A Nutcracker Spectacular,” before going on to a solo recitation of “Carol of the Bells” and “Deck the Halls.”

The evening turned a bit less holiday-like as pianist Lindsay Johnson tickled melancholy notes of “The Meadow” out of the 88 black and white keys before her. The high school choir then sang and dance to an entire slate of songs from the musical “Rent.” Israel Umphrey, Nathan Doll, Sydney Castor, Luvenia Elliot, Leila Marsh, Bill VonHoltum, Daise Vadenbos, Pam Anderson, Haley Carroll, and Korbyn Pierre had solos during the set.

The night ended with all of the band students leading the entire auditorium in a sing-along of Christmas songs.

Lake County schools continued their holiday traditions last week as Charlo Middle School and Arlee Elementary School performed for parents and friends.
