RONAN — Rather than be apprehended by Ronan police, James Adams attempted to outrun officer David Bennett and crashed his motorcycle at the intersection of U.S Highway 93 and Old Highway 93 on Monday.
Adams, of Arlee, was not wearing a helmet in the one-vehicle wreck when he attempted to turn from U.S. Highway 93 onto Old Highway 93 at 50 miles per hour, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Sanderson.
The Lake County Sheriff’s office was notified of the reckless driver just south of Ronan on U.S. Highway 93 at 4:05 p.m. Reports stated that Adams was allegedly driving at speeds higher than 100 miles per hour and was passing recklessly in no passing lanes, Sanderson said.
Adams crashed at 4:10 p.m. and was taken to St. Luke Community Healthcare, where he received treatment for head injuries sustained in accident, Sanderson said.
Sanderson noted that Adams was coherent while being loaded into the ambulance, and he stayed in the hospital overnight.
Sanderson also said that alcohol was a factor in the accident. Law enforcement officials will know if drugs were a factor following a toxicology report. Citations are pending review from the Lake County Attorney’s Office.
The Ronan Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Tribal Police, and the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.
